Join Tokyo’s two most experienced Doulas, Stephanie Kawai and Celia Hughes, for a comprehensive birthing class aimed at preparing you fully for having your baby in Japan!

We welcome pregnant women alone, with husbands, and/or any other birth support partner!

Birthing without fear is one of our main goals as we look at how we can view labour positively. We’ll talk about pain and discuss the question “Is childbirth necessarily painful?”

 

We will go through all the stages of birth, the sensations that accompany each stage and what you can do to receive/provide the best support for each stage – looking at breathing, positions, activities and other comfort measures.

 

We will also touch on interventions, what they are, why they might be necessary, and what you can do to minimize the chance of needing any interventions.

 

Finally, we will consider what it’s like giving birth in Japan as a whole from a cultural point of view and also what you could expect to happen during labour at your own particular hospital here.

A 3-hour class from 3:30pm to 6:30pm on November 24th

Fees: 10,000 JPY per couple

Infant Care Class

NEW CLASS!

This new class will start from September 2019 and will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month for one hour.  The class size will be limited to 8-10 women.

In this one hour class, we will be going through various different aspects of infant care – diapering, bathing, sleeping and breastfeeding (including steps women can take during pregnancy to help get breastfeeding off to the best possible start) among other topics.  We will take time to go through any questions women have about infant care and items related to having a baby in Japan.  Hopefully, everyone will leave the class feeling a little bit more confident about what they will do once baby arrives.

It’s a great compliment to any other comprehensive birth preparation class you are doing or may do, and I encourage women to come to as many classes as they like to get the full benefit.

Relaxation & Visualisation Classes

NEW CLASS!

This new class will start from September 2019 and will be held on the 1st Wednesday of each month for one hour.  The class size will be limited to 8-10 women.

In this one hour class, we will be focusing on relaxing our bodies and releasing tension and anxiety – both physically and mentally.  Relaxation techniques can help manage pregnancy-related stresses as well as help during labour to help everything progress a little more smoothly.  Coupled with visualisation techniques to help women connect more with baby and body, both during pregnancy and labour, it can help lead to a more positive birth experience.

Hopefully, women will leave this one hour class feeling relaxed, refreshed and more connected to their bodies and the amazing things that they will go through.

It’s a great compliment to any other comprehensive birth preparation class you are doing or may do, and I encourage women to come to as many classes as they like to get the full benefit.

Breathing for Birth Classes Sept 2019 onwards

Breathing for Birth classes will continue in the second half of 2019!

The classes will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month for one hour.  The class size will be limited to 8-10 women.

In this one hour class, we will be getting in touch with our bodies and minds in preparation for labour and birth.  We will focus on our breathing and the ways in which it can help us during labour  – as an essential tool for relaxation in labour as well as the crucial role our breathing plays in helping us manage our contractions more effectively.

Breathing is the most natural thing in the world for us to do, and we breathe without even thinking that we are doing so.  Yet in labour it can be one of the most challenging parts – breathing regularly and effectively through contractions to help your uterus work as well as possible and giving you a way to stay in control of your labour can be hard work.  Through these classes, you’ll have the chance to focus just on your breathing for labour, and learn how you can use it to relax and prepare your mind for each stage of labour.

Combined together with other gentle relaxation techniques and massage, this one hour class should leave you feeling refreshed, more empowered and more in touch with your body.

New Classes from September 2019

As the summer starts to wind down, I’m excited to announce my new classes that will start in September!

Along with my regular Breathing for Birth classes, I’m also starting a pregnancy & labour relaxation and visualisation class and also an infant care class that will cover aspects such as diapering, bathing, sleeping and breastfeeding among other things.

Each class will be an hour long from 11-12pm and will be held at the My Body My Pilates studio and the monthly schedule for the classes will be as follows:

1st Wed of each month – Relaxation & Visualisation

2nd Wed of each month – Breathing for Birth

3rd Wed of each month – Infant Care

4th Wed of each month – Breathing for Birth

The Couples Breathing for Birth class will also continue on the 2nd Saturday of each month, too.

I’m really excited to introduce these new classes and hope to meet even more women over the upcoming months!
